About Me

Hi, my name is Michelle. I'm a single mother to Andrew (10) and Ashelyn (6). I completed college in December of 2007 obtaining a degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling. I'm currently in a very new relationship with a wonderful man. My goal is to go back to college and earn my Bachelor's in Social Work; possibly my Master's. I would also love to get my CASAC (credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) someday. I'm discovering a new happiness in my life and the only thing I'm waiting for is to find a job so I can continue my career. I love my field of work and enjoy every minute of it. The rest you can find on my "complete profile". Any questions, feel free to ask :-)

New job stuff

Well, I'm happy that I got a 40 hour full time job. And she said I could work as much overtime as I wanted to. YAY! So, anyway, my hours suck. They are "set" hours, but instead of "set" for a week, it's a "set" two week rotating schedule. As COUNSELOR I, this is my schedule:

WEEK ONE: Monday, off...Tuesday, 2p-11p...Wednesday, 12p-11p, Thursday, 3p-11p, Friday, off...Saturday, off...Sunday, 9a-9p

WEEK TWO: Monday, 3p-11p...Tuesday, off...Wednesday, 12p-10p...Thursday, 1p-11p, Friday, off...Saturday, 9a-9p...Sunday, off

And then, it's back to WEEK ONE, followed by WEEK TWO, WEEK ONE, etc...so according to my current schedule, my new boss pointed out that I have to work on Thanksgiving AND Christmas. I have Halloween off, thank God, so I can at least bring the kids trick or treating, but with this schedule, I am going to lose a lot of time with my kids...they'll get on the bus around 9am and I won't see them again until 11pm...when they're asleep :-( but I need to get my foot in the door somehow. I need to work towards improving my financial life and getting on my OWN feet. I will no longer qualify for help from the government and that feels good. I'll actually be supporting myself and my kids MYSELF without the help of anyone else...(cause some people just don't like to pay their child support, but that's a completely different topic). The only Government assistance I will be on is low income housing. There isn't a 3 bedroom apartment in Saratoga Springs, NY that cost less than $1000 a month and I'll be paying out $250 a week for childcare, which is more than half of my weekly paycheck. So, I will stay here until I can afford to move...but other than that, I am supporting myself and getting off assistance and it feels damn good!
